Indeed. I seem to have a lack of mechanical grip at the rear. What's more, the weight transfer under braking seems to exacerbate things. Need more testing, to be honest...

It doesn't look very stable through the fast corners or under braking. The Spire that came past really made up time through Surtees/Clearways.

Do you have equal size discs front and back now that you are running mid/rear-engined or are you using the same sizes as on the Fury?

Hi Tim,

First of all, thank you for taking the effort to maintain this page, I have watched the development of your car with interest as I would like to build a J15 in the near future.

Just a thought with the ARB, would it be practical to have the ARB link between the inboard ends of the two top wishbonse/rockers. This would enable a much shorter and therefore thinner bar and would have the added benefit of saving a bit of weight.

Cheers

Howard,

The issue will really be making sure that there's some place to mount the crotch straps. Some people run them back to the same points where the lap straps mount. I don't like doing this though, as really that means you're free to pivot about that point. (See the Schroth website for gory details.)

Hence, if it's not already there you'll need to get some crotch strap bushes welded to the chassis. Or they could be welded to sturdy plates that are bolted to the chassis. However, the bolting points would need, most likely, a crush tube welding in so you're back at welding something to the chassis. If you buy something like Schroth belts then they come with plates with nuts welded to them. (The standard size for seat belt bolts is 7/16" UNF.)

You can mount the belts, depending on the sort of attachment on the belts themselves, either with eye bolts or ordinary bolts, depending on whether you want to make them easily removeable or not. (My car, in common with most race cars, has eye bolts because I need to take the belts out frequently. And to chuck them away when they reach the end of their life.

Hope that helps, post something else if I can help more.

Cheers,

Tim

Tim,

well impressed with the site, what a stunning collection of information and inspiration.

I am currently attempting to mount a 6 point harness in my Fury, and I am interested in getting right(!). Any advice you can impart?

thanks in advance.

Tim,

Hmm, I see. I must admit to not knowing. it would, though be pretty easy to connect one of the manifold vacuum pipes to that connection.

However, this isn't what Mr Honda intended so I'd be dubious about it ever working properly. Might be worth asking on the forum about what people (for example the BDN drivers who use Bosch pumps, I think) with external regulators do.

I didn't modify the tank, I had one built (did the same thing on my Fury) that included a flange on the bottom which Andy Bates had made. The honda pump (they pop up for about £60 on ebay) just bolts into that and just works.

Tim,

I must confess at the outset to being a complete novice when it comes to vacuum connections (amongst most other things).

I was concerned about the fuelling of my engine (fouling plugs) so checked the fuel pressure (was 80psi now set to 50psi). The issue of "missing vacuum connection" to the fuel pressure regulator was raised in response to my novice question regarding adjusting the regulator... its probably easier to point to it rather than repost on here: http://locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/9/viewthread.php?tid=168987. To be honest I'm struggling to visualise what they are on about, hence the question to you here.

I noticed in the blog that you had modified the tank to accept standard pump assembly... that looks like a good solution, but I'll try and work with what i've got for now if it has a chance of working.

Thanks

Tim,

Thanks!

From memory the only thing that is connected to the throttle bodies' vacuum ports is the MAP sensor. The other ports are just plugged up (with an old M5 bolt, I think!)

Not sure why there would be a vacuum connection to the regulator? For me, though, I run the standard Fireblade in-tank fuel pump which encapsulates the regulator. Essentially, you just put power in and fuel comes out.

Hi Tim,

Excellent blog!

You mention that you have plugged the superflous vacuum ports... i was wondering if you could fill me in on which ones these are. I have the 05 engine with aftermarket fuel pump and regulator and it has become apparent that there is no vacuum connection between the throttle bodies and the regulator.

Just after some guidance as to where vacuum is required and not required really.

Many thanks
